Client:
Tauranga City Council
Type of project:
Revitalisation of Mount Maunganui Mainstreet
A community inspired project to bring the life back to the heart of Mount Maunganui, a well known beach-front town in the Bay of Plenty on New Zealand's North Island for the Isthmus Group.
Washingtonias and Brazilian Pepper Trees were planted down the main street bays to break up and organise the parking and a grid of 16 mature Canary Island Date Palms (Phoenix canarienis) were planted across the street and an adjacent car park to create a plaza for community events.
The scheme included traffic calming and reorganisation of services. We also designed, detailed and implemented a bespoke range of lighting and street furniture with a seaside theme including special terrazzo pieces with a unique 'Mount Maunganui' shelly mix.
